PRESS RELEASE

The Art Spirit Gallery to Showcase Rediscovered Works of Ernest Lothar at University of Idaho School of Law, Boise
Coeur d’Alene, ID — October 15, 2025 — The Art Spirit Gallery is proud to announce a special exhibition of works by Ernest Lothar, opening for the fall and spring semester at the University of Idaho School of Law in Boise, Idaho. This carefully curated collection reintroduces a forgotten voice in modern art—an artist whose compelling story and exquisite work have long been overshadowed by history.
Born in 1906 in Austria, Lothar’s extraordinary journey as a Jewish artist fleeing Nazi Europe led him through Switzerland, the Dominican Republic, and ultimately to the United States. Despite incredible hardship, illness, and exile, Lothar created a remarkable body of artwork that reflects resilience, hope, and a powerful artistic voice rooted in modernism. Many of his pieces are seen in their original frames, alongside unframed pastels and illustrations, highlighting his prolific talent.
Gallery owner Blair Williams shares, “We are honored to bring Ernest Lothar's story and artwork to new audiences. His life reveals the profound impact of perseverance and creative expression in the face of adversity—a story that resonates deeply today.”
The exhibition will be on display at the University of Idaho from October 15, 2025, through May 4, 2026, with an opening reception on October 15th. The collection includes approximately 60 oil paintings, 200 pastels, and 30 illustrations that chronicle Lothar’s artistic evolution and extraordinary life.
