Sheila Miles
Sheila Miles has dedicated over 50 years to creating figurative and landscape paintings that highlight the quiet beauty of overlooked scenes. Raised in Indiana, she developed a deep love for rural life, barns, horses, and cattle from a young age, drawing inspiration from her childhood in the countryside. Her extensive travels across the West—through Provincetown, New York City, Montana, and Santa Fe—have enriched her artistic perspective and subject matter. She specializes in capturing the textures, surfaces, and histories of abandoned buildings and rural landscapes, emphasizing light, shadow, and the passage of time.
Her work has been exhibited widely, with over 300 exhibitions and pieces included in prominent public collections such as the Yellowstone Art Museum, the Federal Reserve Bank, and the Provincetown Art Association. A graduate of Purdue University, she also studied at the Hans Hofmann School of Art and has held numerous gallery representations and teaching positions. Her artistic focus is on making the ordinary extraordinary—depicting the resilience of structures and scenes that tell stories of survival and history—inviting viewers to connect emotionally with the landscapes and quiet moments she portrays.
