Across the country, ancient grains such as heritage wheat, oats, and millet are enjoying a revival. For its July exhibition, The Art Spirit Gallery celebrates this revival by highlighting work of artists Katherine Nelson, Jeri and Mark Lisk, and A.L. Swanson, all of whom share passion for the abundant natural beauty of the Northwest, especially that surrounding the fields of the Palouse.  According to Nelson, who has studied this movement extensively, “The grain revival inspires an interdependent creative network which is driving both menus and economic possibilities. These interdependent artisanal connections between farmers, millers, bakers, brewers, and distillers are in fact,  weaving people together quite like a carpet.”

The opening reception is July 13 from 5-8 in conjunction with ArtWalk, brought to the community by the Coeur d’Alene Arts and Culture Alliance.  For this exhibition, The Art Spirit Gallery thanks Lewis - Clark State College – Coeur d’Alene for its sponsorship and support of the arts.

On Saturday, July 14,  at 11 am, The Art Spirit Gallery is honored to welcome Dr. Richard Scheuerman, who will present on the history of grains and the Palouse.  Dr. Scheuerman is an author and the authority on Palouse history and grains history.  His honors include, but are not limited to, the Washington State Historical Society’s Robert Gray Medal for outstanding contributions to history education and the Washington Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.  Everyone is welcome.
