This month features Cary Weigand and her intriguing collection of mystical porcelain sculptures. In addition numerous works from other notable clay artists will be featured, including pieces from Chuck Aydlett, Frank Boyden, Josh DeWeese, Terry Gieber, Ryan LaBar, Ryan Mitchell, Daniel Murphy, and Kelly Garrett Rathbone.

Join The Art Spirit Gallery on Friday, May 9 from 5-8 for the Opening Reception and ArtWalk as we celebrate community and the arts.  We welcome the young artists of Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and Humanities as they perform outside the gallery with marimbas, juggling, visual arts, theater, singing and more. We will feature an exhibit behind the gallery of “Non- Selfie Self Portraits” by the CdA High Pathways Class. Please join us as we celebrate the arts in our community.

Cary Weigand will conduct an informal discussion and demonstration of her technique Saturday, May 10 at 1pm.  This free event is open to all.

Cary Weigand was born and raised in Hawaii, where she earned her BFA and MFA from the University of Hawaii in 2003.  Cary’s work has been published in Ceramics Technical, and she was awarded one of Ceramics Monthly’s Emerging Artists for 2011.

The Art Spirit Gallery is honored to be the exclusive gallery showing Cary’s work.  Cary first began showing at the gallery in 2011.  Since then, her sculptures have gained a solid following.  Each piece is ripe with symbolism, depicting spiritual traditions and mythologies from all over the world.  Cary uses both human and animal forms, each with expression that evokes both curiosity and strong emotion in the viewer. Her sculptures reflect her personal philosophy that mythical animals and humans share the responsibility for safekeeping the earth.

The Art Spirit Gallery also celebrates the eighth year it has teamed with Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and Humanities for May’s ArtWalk.  Sorensen’s performance teams will keep the evening lively with juggling, singing, African drumming, theater, visual arts, marimbas, and more.  Please join us as we celebrate the arts in our community.
